THESSALY 2020
Description
Tesalia 2020 is the flagship wine of Bodega Tesalia, a project as romantic as it is ambitious: that of an English family, the Goldings, who fell madly in love with Arcos de la Frontera (Cádiz) and decided to bet on producing great red wines from southern Spain. To do this, they assembled an exceptional team: winemaker Ignacio de Miguel, Professor José Ramón Lissarrague, and Master of Wine Cees Van Casteren.
The winery is located in the Sierra de Grazalema, on the outskirts of Arcos de la Frontera, on an 11-hectare estate vineyard named after the city's Roman name (Arx-Arcis, "fortress on the heights"). The vineyards, planted on a unique clay soil with a chalk subsoil, are influenced by the dual breezes from the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, creating exceptional thermal amplitude that favors slow ripening and the development of complex aromas. A unique situation in Spanish wine geography.
Made with a blend of Tintilla de Rota, Petit Verdot, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon—Tintilla de Rota is the almost extinct native variety of Cádiz that the Tesalia team has helped to recover. After the nighttime manual harvest to preserve temperatures, each variety is fermented separately with four days of pre-fermentation cold maceration. Aging takes place for 12 months in French oak barrels. Total production: barely 6,000 bottles.
Of a bright ruby-red color with a bluish rim and medium-to-high body. On the nose, fresh and elegant with a mineral character: black fruit such as blackcurrant and plum, balsamic sensations of eucalyptus, fennel, and licorice, followed by very well-integrated aging notes—black pepper and incense. On the palate, the entry stands out for its freshness, with volume, roundness, and good acidity. Silky and polished tannins, abundant fruit notes, and a long, persistent, and elegant finish. An Andalusian red with an Atlantic profile that surprises with its freshness and elegance.
Serving temperature: 15–17°C. Ideal for grilled red meats, oxtail, roast pork, game, and aged cheeses.
