FINCA MARTELO Reserva 2016
Description
Finca Martelo Reserva 2016 is the most emblematic wine from Torre de Oña, the boutique winery of La Rioja Alta S.A. in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa. A wine that was born with the aim of extracting the essence of the Páganos terroir, and that is only made in the most exceptional vintages.
Made with 95% Tempranillo and 5% Mazuelo, Garnacha and Viura, from the vineyard of the same name Finca Martelo, located at 630 meters of altitude with vines that are more than 60 years old on North-South facing slopes on limestone soils. The harvest is completely manual in 20 kg boxes, refrigerated up to 4°C. After a 7-day cold pre-fermentation maceration, alcoholic fermentation and 98-day malolactic fermentation in new American and French oak barrels with weekly batonnage. The aging was 24 months in American (80%) and French (20%) oak barrels, with four rackings using the traditional method, plus 6 months in tank to round out the blend.
Intense garnet color with ruby reflections. On the nose, very intense and complex: forest fruits, blackberries, raspberries in liqueur, with balsamic, floral and mineral touches of great elegance. In the mouth it is creamy, meaty and unctuous, with high acidity, "phoenix" tannins - soft at first and growing in intensity sip by sip - and a long and pleasant aftertaste of more than three minutes.
Recognized with 95 Parker points, this reserve from the 2016 vintage is considered one of the best in its category, with an aging potential that is will extend until 2026 and beyond. Ideal for stewed and roasted meats, game and cured sausages. Serve between 16 and 18°C, decanting 30 minutes before.
